Gary San Pietro passed away on June 27th 2017. He was a true artist and his medium was photography. Camera equipment was inconsequential. In film days, when he created most of his images, his paint brush was a simple camera body with an inexpensive zoom lens and an inexpensive tripod. Read More…>>

The most difficult type of artwork to photograph is jewelry. That’s because of it’s small size and that it can have many reflective surfaces. And because of it’s small size, it’s very difficult to keep the entire piece in focus. Also the jewelry medium is the most competitive. Most art shows receive more jewelry applications than any other medium. That’s why it’s important to have excellent images of jewelry that make the pieces pop when viewed by the jury. Read More…>>

Photograph your art in your booth, studio or wherever it’s convenient For years I’ve been recommending using your art show tent as a large diffused light source if you have large or difficult to photograph artwork. Think about how good your artwork looks when you set up at a show. Ideally you want to set […] Read More…>>

Last week I got a call about scanning artwork to create high resolution digital images for reproduction. My web site contains a page that advertises my slide and artwork scanning services to Pittsburgh and it comes up number one when anyone searches, bringing me jobs from time to time. This job was different. The artwork […] Read More…>>

2016 Broad Ripple Open Jury 517 artists competed for 230 spaces. Because of the severity of the weather forecast, I left after the jewelry category which took place immediately after lunch. When artists do not cover their expenses it is often because there were not enough qualified buyers at those events. This has happened to all of us. Customizing the Light Dome Canopy If my Light Dome was a computer, I’d call this hacking it.
