Aging Deadheads. Yesterday was August 1st and it would have been Jerry Garcia’s 70th birthday. In memory of the occasion, they ran the Grateful Dead Movie as a special event at select theaters all over the country. If you are a Deadhead or have enjoyed listening to their music, take two hours out of your life, kick back and enjoy the closest thing to a Grateful Dead concert next time it plays. July is the biggest art show month of the year, meaning there are more major art shows in July than any other month. And by major art shows, I mean shows that are nationally recognized as art shows where historically, […] Read More…>>

The American Craft Council is now using Juried Art Services. JAS has a different policy than ZAPP. Though they both allow you to make changes in your application after submitting it, ZAPP makes you jump through hoops by having to contact the show and asking them if they will set your application status to incomplete […] Read More…>>

The Finished Postcard. Sometimes The obvious isn’t so obvious. The original postcard layout (see picture at bottom) called for five images, the Niche award logo and a web site URL. Way too cluttered and nothing could be seen clear enough to be a strong image. I redesigned using the two most important images against a […] Read More…>>

My wife was going to be laid up for a few weeks. She had seen the book “Catherine the Great” at Costco and in my infinite wisdom, I suggested purchasing a refurbished iPad and reading the book on the Kindle app. She had been thinking about getting a Kindle or Kindle Fire or an iPad, […] Read More…>>

A blog was started on ArtFair Insiders about Romance at Art Shows. Reminded me that last month was 25 years since I met my wife at the Three Rivers Art Festival in Pittsburgh in June 1987. That’s when I was selling teddy bear photographs and she thought that anyone that could take pictures like that would […] Read More…>>

What Size Images Should an Art Show Use on their Web Site. This is an ongoing issue where some art shows display artist jury images at a too large size on their web site to promote the show. I’m not saying that the shows shouldn’t use the images. In fact it’s in the agreement we […] Read More…>>

Why “300DPI or Greater” is Not an Image Size. and How to Ask for Digital Images without being Confusing. How many times have you seen, “send your digital images, 300DPI or greater. The higher the resolution, the better to see your artwork.” That seems to be the most commonly asked for image specifications by art […] Read More…>>

I originally created BermanGraphics in 1999 as a way to get free stuff from the companies that displayed at Comdex, the big computer trade show. True to my word, I’d write reviews on all the stuff given to me and post it on my new web site, created just the week before. What was really […] Read More…>>
