George Schaub - editor of Shutterbug Magazine (Jan 23, 2002)
The picture of George Schaub was taken with the CoolPix 5000 and the WC-E68 (19mm equivalent) accessory wide angle lens. The light source was an SB-50 bounced into the white ceiling.
Forced Fill Flash
Pictures taken with the 19mm lens and the SB-50 bounced off the ceiling for fill
This group picture (above) was taken with the WC-E68 19mm wide angle lens on the CoolPix 5000 with the SB-50 (and wide angle diffuser) bounced off the porch ceiling. Forced fill flash was used. I'm on the far left and my father, who has his 82 birthday today is wearing the yellow shirt and funny hat.
These pictures were taken with the SB-50DX
The group picture was taken with the WC-E68 wide angle lens on the CoolPix 5000 and the SB-50 set on TTL with it's wide angle diffuser. The pictures were taken in a dark restaurant. Exposure was right on but there was a circular reflection on every picture, including the test pictures I took upon arriving home. There is no circular reflection when the flash is used without the wide angle diffuser. Unless I learn more from other people's experiences, I feel that the reflection is caused by the diffuser kicking light down and striking the lens. In an informal test, I held my hand between the flash and the lens and the reflection didn't appear. Note that this has not been confirmed by anyone else, and I'm asking Nikon to look into it.

The group picture was taken with the WC-E68 wide angle lens and the wide angle diffuser on the SB-50. The CP 5000 was set on self timer

Taken with the built in lens set at 28mm and the wide angle diffuser on the SB-50
There is a circular reflection when using the WC-E68 wide angle lens with the SB-50DX flash with it's wide angle diffuser (white arrow) with the flash head aimed straight ahead. I've seen this reflection on every picture taken with the combination flash and accessory lens. You can open the full size Jpeg to examine for yourself. If you've tested the same combination lens and flash, please let me know if you've seen the same problem. The reflection wasn't there when shooting with the built in lens alone or with the WC-E68 without the external flash.
