This is one of those humorous "it can only happen on the
Internet" stories. Our client,
Robert Barab, was
concerned about his images getting stolen when he first hired us to build
his web site. We offered to slice his images so they would be two separate
images that would be assembled in the HTML as they loaded. (example
slicing page) In doing a search for his name on Google he came across
this gallery web site that had stolen his entire web site. But being
either incompetent or dumb, or both, they captured only one picture from
each of Roberts pages - HALF OF EACH PICTURE ON HIS WEB SITE. The
web site that has stolen his images is
http://jamesbaird.com and is also offering postcards from his half
images. Below are example pictures from two of the web pages on the
jamesbaird.com web site. The top picture is the example page showing half
of Robert's image. The middle image is the sliced two images as used on
the page on Robert's web site. The bottom image is the page on the
janesbaird.com web site that specifies how many of Robert's images are
available. |
Besides the clear copyright violation of
hosting copies of Robert's images, they also made his photography look bad
by only displaying half of each image. On 12/17/02, I contacted the
webmaster of the James Baird web site and had Robert's pages removed. If
your work is being presented without permission, I suggest you also
e-mail them to delete the
pages from their site. |
