My father passed away in March and I’ve been closing down and paying off all his accounts and services. His Sprint cell phone hadn’t been used since January and I closed the account over a month ago. Today I received a final statement with a bill for $150. In calling Sprint, I was told that it was a termination fee.

Speak about irony.

The embarrassed representative immediately told me the fee was an automatic process and that they were not aware of his passing away. I responded by telling her that the envelope had been addresses to the estate of… and that the computer should have been programmed to automatically NOT send termination fee charges to people who had passed away. She waived the fee and I’ll actually be getting a small refund for overpayment on a previous bill.
