Powering the Camera
The Maha Powerbank

MH-204F Charger from Maha

The first thing you should do after buying a Nikon Coolpix 950/990 camera is to purchase Nickel Metal Hydride rechargeable batteries. Nikon ships the camera with non-rechargeable alkaline type batteries, which can be exhausted in an hour of use. We recommend two sets of 1550 mAh NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride) rechargeable batteries and the quick charger MH-C204F from Maha. As soon as one set is exhausted we just swap them and get back to shooting.

Another alternative is the Maha POWERBank NiMH Battery Pack. This small device has 1800 mAh of power, plugs into your cool pix through an external cable and will let you shoot all day without interruption.

These are great power sources. But I have to admit, besides the Maha batteries, I'm still carrying the original two sets of rechargeable batteries and one hour charger I picked up at Radio Shack on my way home when I first purchased the camera. Since I also purchased a CoolPix 950, I'm now carrying two extra sets of batteries.
